Final Thoughts- less than 24 hours to go!

Final Thoughts- less than 24 hours to go!

Thank you for the very encouraging comments after my recent half marathon.  I intended to write  between now and then but of course life got incredibly busy and chaotic with the holidays.  There were Christmas parties, cookie exchanges, Christmas programs and a slew of other activities going on that kept this mama moving!  I will say I think I had the most relaxing Christmas day I’ve had for as long as I can remember.  While the kids were busy playing…

No Man’s Land

No Man’s Land

Two weeks ago was the D & L Heritage Marathon.  Two weeks from today is the St. Jude Marathon.  That puts me right smack in the middle of no man’s land. Basically, it’s trying to merge recovery, training and tapering (in 27 days) and hoping for the best!  Running back to back marathons is not for everyone.  This past spring I ran them 7 weeks apart and I was able to PR 4 minutes on my second marathon.  I really…

Another 5K? and NYC- 10 days and counting!!

Another 5K? and NYC- 10 days and counting!!

This first taper week is actually going surprisingly well.  I have only looked at my McMillan race pace calculation sheet a few times today so we’re doing good so far….  I have another 5K on Saturday which is really taking my mind off all things NYC.  Yes, you read that right.  I am running a 5K 8 days before NYC.  I am using this race in place of my last set of mile repeats.  5k’s are just more fun and…

A scary run- what was I thinking?

A scary run- what was I thinking?

One of the downsides to 5K racing during marathon training is trying to fit in long runs.  Timing them right can be a bit tricky.  Fortunately, 5K’s don’t leave me as sore and tired as they used to in college (or maybe I’m not running them hard enough?) and my recovery time is faster for 5K’s than in other distances I race.  I’ve been working in my long runs the day after my 5K’s.  This past weekend was my last…

Racing, Resting and Peak Week!

Racing, Resting and Peak Week!

I must admit that the last few weeks have been a bit of a running blur.  I’ve been doing my best trying to balance racing and recovery all the while continue training for NYC which is now less than 4 weeks away!  My recent half marathon and 5K were incredible experiences and I guess I’ve just been floating along on a runner’s high.  I’ve cut my mileage a little the past few weeks trying to taper for them.  I know…

Tapering & Training

Tapering & Training

Exactly one week from today I am running in my 4th marathon.  That means this week is my least favorite week of all… The final taper week.  This is typically the week that I question my training, my ability, my racing strategy and my sweet tooth. (For some reason, eating any and all desserts is not as fun when you’re not running as much. Go figure.) Am I ready?I do feel more prepared for the Little Rock Marathon than I…

It’s Houston, Baby!!!

It’s Houston, Baby!!!

We made it! The past 24 hours have been busy! We had Ashton’s 1 year birthday party last night and then it was time to switch gears and start race packing. This morning I finished all the packing (it takes a while packing up 6 people) and then this afternoon John, Ashton and I flew to Houston. The three big kids are with Nana and Papa. We are so thankful to live by them! The flight from Little Rock to…
