Port Fest 5K- Race Report {AKA- The Race I turned Pro!} ok, not really!

Port Fest 5K- Race Report {AKA- The Race I turned Pro!} ok, not really!

Yesterday’s 5K could have easily been a total disaster: For starters- I had taken two weeks completely off running until Tuesday- just days before the race.  I had 3 not so great runs and decided to run this race at the last minute.  No speed work (and practically no running) does not usually produce a high quality 5K! I did have lots of elliptical time so it wasn’t a total loss… Two of my children started throwing up in the…

Where to Begin??

Where to Begin??

This has been a long week.  It’s the first full week that school has been out so I guess I’m adjusting to having 4 kids home all day.  There’s been a lot going on but not much time to blog so I thought I would give a little run down of the week so far… Monday- last day of my two week cross training. I had a random urge to try CrossFit.  Our local CrossFit gym lets you go three…

A Short Break and an 18 minute 5K…

Birthdays and Mileage Issues

Birthdays and Mileage Issues

This past week is what we affectionately refer to as “Birthday Week” around our house.  My oldest son’s birthday is April 19th and my youngest daughter’s birthday is the 21st.  The 21st is also my mother-in-law’s birthday so it is one busy week! My son requested a coconut cream cake for his special day.  Yes, he has some unusual tastes for a 6 year-old!  I have never made one before but I found a great recipe on…

Boston Blues? Just looking ahead

Boston Blues? Just looking ahead

Well, I have not posted much recently and I must admit I just haven’t been in the mood.  I’ve been busy, I’ve had family in town (my sister recently had a baby!!) and I just haven’t felt inspired to write much.  I recently passed the one year anniversary (March 31, 2011) of my stress fracture and I must say that I am glad that date has come and gone.  I am now officially one year out from the injury that…

Rookie Mistake

Rookie Mistake

As I may have mentioned a few times since the Little Rock Marathon my right knee has been bothering me.  It’s not a sharp stop-running-this-instant-pain  but I do not usually have knee pain of any kind and this is not normal. I blamed the crazy elevation changes in the LRM.  I took off a few days and mixed in a little cross training between some easy recovery runs.  For some reason the only run that hasn’t bothered my knee was…
