Go! Mile 2017 Race Report

Go! Mile 2017 Race Report

Well I’ve put off writing this race recap for about as long as I can.  It’s not nearly as much fun going into a race when you’re not prepared and for some reason it’s even more intimidating when it’s a one mile race.  Go! Mile was the 10th race in the Arkansas Grand Prix schedule this year and the only one mile race in the series. This summer marked my 5th consecutive year for running it. So what were my…

Arkansas Runner 2 Mile Race Recap

Arkansas Runner 2 Mile Race Recap

I’m not a fan of being unprepared when it comes to racing.  I know there are some who like to race “for fun” but my version of fun typically involves racing fast and running well. Racing is hard enough as it is and I don’t need a little voice in my head telling me I can’t do it or I’m not ready when things get tough. I want to head to the starting line feeling calm and confident in my…

Staying Focused and Staying POSITIVE- Spring Fling 5k 2017

Staying Focused and Staying POSITIVE- Spring Fling 5k 2017

When it comes to racing I tend to be a creature of habit.  2017 marked my 5th consecutive year of running the Cabot Spring Fling 5k.  Three of these years have been within 2-3 weeks of finishing the Little Rock Marathon but it’s just hard to pass up this one since it’s only 30 minutes from our house and it’s on the Arkansas Grand Prix Schedule. The week leading up to the race was a tough one emotionally.  The Arkansas…

Minuteman Cross Country 5k

Minuteman Cross Country 5k

Saturday’s Grand Prix race took me way back to my former running days. Lining up in boxed lanes in a grassy field makes me feel like a high school cross country runner all over again.  A few differences this time were having my kids right behind me and I didn’t have a coach yelling out splits. I’ve only run one cross country race since college and it was over three years ago. It was a 5k cross country / trail…

The Wildcat Road Mile- 2016 edition

The Wildcat Road Mile- 2016 edition

Saturday was my third time to race in the Wildcat Road Mile. This is a small, local race that benefits my daughter’s cross country team. The mile is an intimidating distance for me and coming off a marathon recovery cycle was not the ideal time to race it. I started a little too aggressive and then lost focus on the third quarter and really ran out of steam. I pushed through and finished with a 5:30. I probably won’t be…

Arkansas Runner 2 Miler: 2016 edition

Arkansas Runner 2 Miler: 2016 edition

It’s always a little intimidating to follow up a race distance after a PR. Back in March I unexpectedly set a new 2 mile personal best time- finally beating my time from 1997!  I went into that race with zero expectations since it was 6 days after a marathon but once I got out there everything just clicked and I went with it. The result- negative splits and a new PR of 11:34. This past Saturday’s 2 mile race was…

Lessons learned the hard way from racing

Lessons learned the hard way from racing

In the world of running and racing, it doesn’t get much better than staying strong and running a smart, perfectly executed race.  Usually these are the races that end with our best time on the finish line clock.  We learn a lot from these races and set the bar to measure all our future races by the success we earned in that one. So what about those races we want to forget about the moment we cross the finish line? …

A New 10K PR- Running With My Mini Me…

A New 10K PR- Running With My Mini Me…

If you are reading wondering how I set a new 10K PR just 6 days after my marathon I will fill you in now… I didn’t!  It’s not my PR but I think I am enjoying it more than when I set my own this past May.  It actually belongs to my Abi and I had the privilege of running with her this morning in a local 10K.  Several months ago when I first learned of a new 10K race…

Wicked and a 5K!

Wicked and a 5K!

Last week was not exactly an ideal week of marathon training.  After the infamous strep throat half marathon I took some needed time off from running.  The combination of running a half marathon and being sick really wiped me out and I was down for the count.  When I finally started to come around mid week I took it easy and kept my mileage LOW. A friend asked me Wednesday if my girls and I would like to join her…

An emotional week ending with a 5K

An emotional week ending with a 5K

What a long week this has been.  I am truly thankful to be on this end of it now.  Just one week ago I had finished my weekly long run and was preparing for the upcoming week of training.  How quickly things can change… I was truly humbled this week and learned many new life lessons.  Not sure the best way to navigate this post so bear with me! Sunday evening as I was reading to the kids at bedtime…
