Marathon Week: Oh the Drama!

Marathon Week: Oh the Drama!

My morning started off a little rocky. Pun intended. Around 4:30 this morning I heard a loud noise in the hallway.  I immediately knew something was wrong and sure enough Rocky looked like he was about to throw up.  I grabbed him and brought him to the bathroom.  He did.  A few times. Then I brought him in to lay with John in the “sick room” of the house.  So he stayed home from school. So far no one (else)…

NYC Marathon Week- A little bit of everything!

NYC Marathon Week- A little bit of everything!

It’s race week! Yes, the New York City Marathon IS still on.  At least that’s what they keep saying! They are not quite sure how everyone is getting to the starting line in Staten Island but I guess they’ll figure that one out later..  My thoughts and prayers have been with those up in the northeast.  I have family in Pennsylvania and Connecticut who were really affected by the storms (lost power and had some flooding). In the meantime, I’ve…

Ready for NYC Marathon: It’s TRICKY!!

Ready for NYC Marathon: It’s TRICKY!!

One of my FAVORITE running partners is someone I have known my entire life.  We ran side by side in our very first road race.  We ran together in high school cross country and track. Both of us on H.S. track team in 1997.  I am one year older but she has always been taller than me! We ran together in our first marathon when we were in college.  It’s been about ten years since our last race together but…

Another 5K? and NYC- 10 days and counting!!

This first taper week is actually going surprisingly well.  I have only looked at my McMillan race pace calculation sheet a few times today so we’re doing good so far….  I have another 5K on Saturday which is really taking my mind off all things NYC.  Yes, you read that right.  I am running a 5K 8 days before NYC.  I am using this race in place of my last set of mile repeats.  5k’s are just more fun and…

Tempos on Treadmills and Learning to let go…

It’s hard to believe I am in Week 7 of my New York City Marathon training but it’s even stranger to think that I have done the majority of my training so far on a treadmill… I have never been a huge fan of running on a treadmill but this summer has definitely moved me out of my comfort zone. One of my good running buddies (who was also training for NYC) is out with a stress fracture so I’ve…

Random Update Time and Family Pics

Random Update Time and Family Pics

Health Issues: Two weeks ago on Friday I went for a hot 10 mile run with one of my best running buddies.  Even though I had put on Vaseline in all my usual preventive areas I still chafed pretty bad under my sports bra.  I didn’t think much of it until later that night when I realized how bad it really was.  By the next day it was looking awful and I was in a lot of pain and discomfort. …

A HARD day and a HARD workout

A HARD day and a HARD workout

Yesterday we came back from a wonderful family vacation.  We had spent a week in California visiting friends and family we have there.  One of my favorite things we did was go to Yosemite. The kids and I had never been and it is AMAZING! Traveling home was long.  And hard.  The older three did very well and poor Ashton did the best he could but sitting on a plane all day is tough on an 18 month-old.  It’s also…
