Training Basics- a Non Race Week
Training Basics- a Non Race Week

In the spring it is very easy for me to get caught up in racing.  There seems to be an abundance of local races and I have a very hard time resisting the urge to run every single one of them.  Last year at this time I think I did race just about all of them (including double races two

The Spring Fling 5k Race Recap and Breaking 19 Minutes… again!

Coming back from an injury can take a while and it’s hard not to get a little discouraged during the comeback phase.  For the last several months I’ve been comparing myself to where I was last year before the plantar fasciitis started.  My foot has felt good for a while now but my confidence in my ability has not been

Portfest 5K Race Report- 2014 edition

In case you were wondering how it would feel to race a 5K 6 days after a marathon I will fill you in… It’s ROUGH.  So why did I do it?  This small, local race has become a little family tradition.  It’s the last Saturday in May and always offers some prize money to the overall male and female winner.

Not another half marathon! (As well as thoughts on racing, training and more…)

Sometimes we need a break.  Maybe not from running all together but from racing a certain distance.  Right now me and the half marathon distance are not on the best of terms.  In the span of 6 weeks I raced in three half marathons.  Did I overdo it?  Yes. Do I need a break?  Yes. Little Rock Half Marathon- 3/2/14-

Not Boston Bound 2014
Not Boston Bound 2014

This morning the Boston Marathon opened registration for runners who have met the qualifying standard by 20 minutes or more.  I am extremely tempted to go on and click “register” but I’m not. In the past I have made the comment (many times) that as long as I qualified for Boston I planned on running in it.  Why wouldn’t I?

Kids & Racing

A LONG time ago I ran my first 5K.  I wish I could remember the exact year but I believe I was 6 or 7 years old. I had done zero training and was not involved in any organized sports.  I was just a typical kid who played and ran around outside at recess and after school.  My sister who

Several months ago my youngest sister decided to run her first half marathon.  She registered for the Nashville Country Music Half Marathon on April 27.  My plan was to run with her to help pace her.  I knew we would have the best girls weekend together.  Then, April 15th happened and I am still trying to sort things out.  My

A Big Scare & A SUPER STAR!!!

Thursday night when I went to bed my right foot felt a little off.  There was a certain twinge when I stepped down on the side of my ankle. I had planned to run 17 miles Friday morning but decided to cut it back to 12 and just see how it felt.  Surprisingly enough, it didn’t hurt at all during

CASA 5K Race Report- the one that was REALLY hot!

Yesterday I ran in another 5K.  I knew going into the race that once again my training was not where it needed to be because of my patellar tendonitis.  I have been cross training much more than running this past month and it all caught up to me yesterday- along with some pretty intense heat. For some reason, 5 K

Birthdays and Mileage Issues
Birthdays and Mileage Issues

What a week! This past week is what we affectionately refer to as “Birthday Week” around our house.  My oldest son’s birthday is April 19th and my youngest daughter’s birthday is the 21st.  The 21st is also my mother-in-law’s birthday so it is one busy week! My son requested a coconut cream cake for his special day.  Yes, he has
