Training Basics- a Non Race Week

Training Basics- a Non Race Week

In the spring it is very easy for me to get caught up in racing.  There seems to be an abundance of local races and I have a very hard time resisting the urge to run every single one of them.  Last year at this time I think I did race just about all of them (including double races two weekends in a row) which may have contributed to my injury.  This year I’m trying to be a little more…

Not another half marathon! (As well as thoughts on racing, training and more…)

Sometimes we need a break.  Maybe not from running all together but from racing a certain distance.  Right now me and the half marathon distance are not on the best of terms.  In the span of 6 weeks I raced in three half marathons.  Did I overdo it?  Yes. Do I need a break?  Yes. Little Rock Half Marathon- 3/2/14- race report can be found here. Germantown Half Marathon- 3/16/14- race report can be found here. Doc Rock and Run…

Not Boston Bound 2014

Not Boston Bound 2014

This morning the Boston Marathon opened registration for runners who have met the qualifying standard by 20 minutes or more.  I am extremely tempted to go on and click “register” but I’m not. In the past I have made the comment (many times) that as long as I qualified for Boston I planned on running in it.  Why wouldn’t I?  In my opinion Boston is the marathon of all marathons.  The journey to run this one race took many years…

Finding the Balance- Mommy Guilt vs. Inspiring our children

Finding the Balance- Mommy Guilt vs. Inspiring our children

My kids know I’m a runner.  They know that if they wake up early (before 7) on any given morning I will most likely be running.  Even my youngest (who is 2) assumes that whenever I’m gone and it’s just daddy here that “mama’s at runnin.”  Deep down I know that I am setting a good example for them and I do my very best to minimize the time I run while they are awake but why do I still…

My Favorite Run of the Year and Some Final 5K Thoughts….

My Favorite Run of the Year and Some Final 5K Thoughts….

Can 2013 be over halfway over?  Summer is flying by and my official 5K training season is coming to a close.  It was short and sweet.  In two days is the big race and I hope I’m ready.  I’ve put in the training.  Time to put it all out there on July 4th. I am not one who traditionally races on Independence Day.  In fact, I believe the last race I did on the 4th of July was the Dominoes…

Decisions, Recovery & Birthdays!

Decisions, Recovery & Birthdays!

Several months ago my youngest sister decided to run her first half marathon.  She registered for the Nashville Country Music Half Marathon on April 27.  My plan was to run with her to help pace her.  I knew we would have the best girls weekend together.  Then, April 15th happened and I am still trying to sort things out.  My oldest daughter (8 yrs. old) told me this past weekend that she did not want me to leave for another…

Birthdays and Mileage Issues

Birthdays and Mileage Issues

What a week! This past week is what we affectionately refer to as “Birthday Week” around our house.  My oldest son’s birthday is April 19th and my youngest daughter’s birthday is the 21st.  The 21st is also my mother-in-law’s birthday so it is one busy week! My son requested a coconut cream cake for his special day.  Yes, he has some unusual tastes for a 6 year-old!  I have never made one before but I found a great recipe on…

November’s 30 *Things*

November’s 30 *Things*

If you are on Facebook at all, you have most likely noticed that many people are using their statuses to put something they are thankful for each day in November.  I do not get on Facebook as much as I used to but I would like to take one post to share 30 things I am thankful for… 1. My Salvation. Without my belief in God or my relationship to Christ everything else in my life would be meaningless.  Everything…
