Go! Mile 2016: RRCA National One Mile Championship

Go! Mile 2016: RRCA National One Mile Championship

To a distance runner is there really any distance more intimidating than the mile?  Just thinking about racing all out for one mile makes me tired… and nervous.  I know one of the best things you can do to improve as a runner is to get out of your comfort zone so races like Go! Mile and the Arkansas Runner 2 Miler definitely do that for me! This was my fourth year to run Go! Mile.  This race is actually…

It’s the end of an era…

It’s the end of an era…

Last weekend I ran in 5k pushing a jogging stroller. It’s been a long time since I’ve done something like that.  Obviously I wasn’t in typical competitive race mode and my mid-race thought process was very different.  This stroller’s tire seems flat! I hope it can make it 3 more miles! Then there was the realization- Wow!  I’m going so much slower than my last race.  But the thought that sticks out most in my mind was when I realized this…

Updated Racing Schedule, Spring Break, AND… a 2 Mile Race Report

Updated Racing Schedule, Spring Break, AND… a 2 Mile Race Report

Thank you for the kind comments on my blog, Facebook, and Twitter recently.  As you can imagine it was very hard to drop out of a marathon at the last minute but it is what it is and I’m much better now- physically and emotionally!  I think the hardest part was accepting reality and officially making the decision.  I did get a kick out of some of the Facebook/blog comments.  Particularly the ones who thought the thermometer was a positive…

My Birthday, the Great Duck 10K Race Recap AND a BIG Announcement!

My Birthday, the Great Duck 10K Race Recap AND a BIG Announcement!

Hello! Has it really been 2 weeks?! So much going on and so little time to write about it… Happy December! First, yes, I did have a birthday and I did something I’ve never done before on my birthday- I ran a race! I always make it a point to run on my birthday but believe it or not I have never run a race on it.  There’s a big difference! Several months ago when I realized my birthday was…

My Most Important Run of the Year

My Most Important Run of the Year

If I had to think about my most important run of the year it would not be my last marathon or even my big race tomorrow- The Fast Firecracker… I would honestly say it is the run I get to do with my daughter on her birthday.  Sure, we run together a few times during the year but there is something special about being the first one to see the birthday girl in the morning and spending the first part…

Women Run Arkansas 5K: A competitive mother daughter race!

Women Run Arkansas 5K: A competitive mother daughter race!

I know.  I did it again.  I said I was done racing until my marathon and then I heard about the Mother/ Daughter Division of the Women Run Arkansas 5K.  How could I resist?? The Women Run Arkansas program has been around since 1997.  This organization promotes health and fitness through running and walking. The WRA organizes free run/walk clinics for women, which are held for 10 weeks each spring. At the end of the 10 weeks there is a…

A Few Questions Answered

A Few Questions Answered

Hello there! In the last few weeks I’ve had several emails and Facebook messages with running related questions so I thought I would answer some of these here.  Most of them have been asked on more than one occasion and in the almost 5 years I’ve kept this running blog I’ve never had a post dedicated to answering questions so I figured it was time.  I do not claim to be an expert so please take it for what it’s…

Finding the Balance- Mommy Guilt vs. Inspiring our children

Finding the Balance- Mommy Guilt vs. Inspiring our children

My kids know I’m a runner.  They know that if they wake up early (before 7) on any given morning I will most likely be running.  Even my youngest (who is 2) assumes that whenever I’m gone and it’s just daddy here that “mama’s at runnin.”  Deep down I know that I am setting a good example for them and I do my very best to minimize the time I run while they are awake but why do I still…

My RRCA Weekend AND a One Mile Race!

My RRCA Weekend AND a One Mile Race!

This weekend I took the RRCA Coaching Certification course in Little Rock.  It has been a goal of mine to one day become a certified RRCA coach.  I’d looked up course locations but they were all out of state and far away so I just put it in the back of my mind that I would do it someday.  A few months ago our Arkansas RRCA State representative David Meroney sent out a message seeing if there was any interest…

Running to Improve VS. Just Running

Running to Improve VS. Just Running

I can honestly say that I’ve considered myself a runner for about as long as I can remember.  As a young girl I would cheer for my dad on the sidelines whenever he raced and I ran my very first 5K around age 6 or 7.  Somehow I always felt like I was “part of the the club.” In eighth grade I started consistently running but I had no time goals.  I did not race or run for any team. …
