Go! Mile 2016: RRCA National One Mile Championship

To a distance runner is there really any distance more intimidating than the mile?  Just thinking about racing all out for one mile makes me tired… and nervous.  I know one of the best things you can do to improve as a runner is to get out of your comfort zone so races like Go! Mile and the Arkansas Runner

It’s the end of an era…

Last weekend I ran in 5k pushing a jogging stroller. It’s been a long time since I’ve done something like that.  Obviously I wasn’t in typical competitive race mode and my mid-race thought process was very different.  This stroller’s tire seems flat! I hope it can make it 3 more miles! Then there was the realization- Wow!  I’m going so much

Updated Racing Schedule, Spring Break, AND… a 2 Mile Race Report

Thank you for the kind comments on my blog, Facebook, and Twitter recently.  As you can imagine it was very hard to drop out of a marathon at the last minute but it is what it is and I’m much better now- physically and emotionally!  I think the hardest part was accepting reality and officially making the decision.  I did

My Birthday, the Great Duck 10K Race Recap AND a BIG Announcement!

Hello! Has it really been 2 weeks?! So much going on and so little time to write about it… Happy December! First, yes, I did have a birthday and I did something I’ve never done before on my birthday- I ran a race! I always make it a point to run on my birthday but believe it or not I

My Most Important Run of the Year
My Most Important Run of the Year

If I had to think about my most important run of the year it would not be my last marathon or even my big race tomorrow- The Fast Firecracker… I would honestly say it is the run I get to do with my daughter on her birthday.  Sure, we run together a few times during the year but there is

Women Run Arkansas 5K: A competitive mother daughter race!

I know.  I did it again.  I said I was done racing until my marathon and then I heard about the Mother/ Daughter Division of the Women Run Arkansas 5K.  How could I resist?? The Women Run Arkansas program has been around since 1997.  This organization promotes health and fitness through running and walking. The WRA organizes free run/walk clinics

A Few Questions Answered
A Few Questions Answered

Hello there! In the last few weeks I’ve had several emails and Facebook messages with running related questions so I thought I would answer some of these here.  Most of them have been asked on more than one occasion and in the almost 5 years I’ve kept this running blog I’ve never had a post dedicated to answering questions so

Finding the Balance- Mommy Guilt vs. Inspiring our children
Finding the Balance- Mommy Guilt vs. Inspiring our children

My kids know I’m a runner.  They know that if they wake up early (before 7) on any given morning I will most likely be running.  Even my youngest (who is 2) assumes that whenever I’m gone and it’s just daddy here that “mama’s at runnin.”  Deep down I know that I am setting a good example for them and

My RRCA Weekend AND a One Mile Race!
My RRCA Weekend AND a One Mile Race!

This weekend I took the RRCA Coaching Certification course in Little Rock.  It has been a goal of mine to one day become a certified RRCA coach.  I’d looked up course locations but they were all out of state and far away so I just put it in the back of my mind that I would do it someday.  A

Running to Improve VS. Just Running
Running to Improve VS. Just Running

I can honestly say that I’ve considered myself a runner for about as long as I can remember.  As a young girl I would cheer for my dad on the sidelines whenever he raced and I ran my very first 5K around age 6 or 7.  Somehow I always felt like I was “part of the the club.” In eighth
