Not another half marathon! (As well as thoughts on racing, training and more…)

Sometimes we need a break.  Maybe not from running all together but from racing a certain distance.  Right now me and the half marathon distance are not on the best of terms.  In the span of 6 weeks I raced in three half marathons.  Did I overdo it?  Yes. Do I need a break?  Yes. Little Rock Half Marathon- 3/2/14-

A Few Questions Answered
A Few Questions Answered

Hello there! In the last few weeks I’ve had several emails and Facebook messages with running related questions so I thought I would answer some of these here.  Most of them have been asked on more than one occasion and in the almost 5 years I’ve kept this running blog I’ve never had a post dedicated to answering questions so

Cue the Rocky Music!
Cue the Rocky Music!

Welcome to a newer looking Arkansas Runner Mom blog. 🙂 I decided to update some pictures on the cover and thought I’d spruce up the color while I was at it.  I needed to change a few things around after the mini slump I was in. After my not so great race performance last weekend I felt like my body

The River Trail 15K Race Report- the 2014 edition
The River Trail 15K Race Report- the 2014 edition

I’m going to try to keep this brief.  Saturday was not a great racing day for me.  I know everyone has races like this every once in a while.  And yes, I know I race often so I can’t expect them all to be perfect.  I really don’t have an excuse to what was my deal.  Bottom line: I didn’t

Recovery and Training: The Basics
Recovery and Training: The Basics

I’m back! It’s been a while since my last post and I’m not sure why. I just haven’t been very motivated to write.  I’ve been back in training mode for two weeks or so now.  As I mentioned in an earlier post my right foot was giving me some grief so I took some time off so it could heal.

At the starting line…
At the starting line…

Yesterday the Boston Marathon posted this picture on Facebook and the reality of it has still not sunk in just yet. In just 4 short days I will be crossing the starting line in Hopkinton and working my way 26.2 miles until I reach the finish line on Boylston St. in Boston. It’s been a long road to Boston and

Coming Out of a {Mini} Slump
Coming Out of a {Mini} Slump

Despite my bittersweet PR last weekend, I spent most of this week feeling a bit out of sorts in my running world.  I think I just needed to process the race and it took me a while.  For months I had built up a certain finish time and race strategy in my mind and when the weather and course didn’t

Can I have some peace and quiet?
Can I have some peace and quiet?

Living in a house with 4 little people means that there is noise ALL the time- except, of course, for the hours they are asleep.  Usually, I don’t even think of it as noise- it’s just life happening all around me. Before having kids I was really into music.  I would have it playing in my house, my car, office,

And the Verdict is….
And the Verdict is….

After almost 3 months of an annoying on again off again pesky knee injury I finally went to a physical therapist.  While I was laying there in agony as he worked on my leg (I was really tight) I just kept thinking that I should have come weeks ago.  Yes, it was pure torture but in a good way.  My

Port Fest 5K- Race Report {AKA- The Race I turned Pro!} ok, not really!

Yesterday’s 5K could have easily been a total disaster: For starters- I had taken two weeks completely off running until Tuesday- just days before the race.  I had 3 not so great runs and decided to run this race at the last minute.  No speed work (and practically no running) does not usually produce a high quality 5K! I did
