A Few BIG Annoucements and a Little Blogging Reality

A Few BIG Annoucements and a Little Blogging Reality

Once again a few weeks have gone by since my last post.  I think of posts all the time that I want to write but life happens and much of the time writing gets pushed to the back burner.  Will I ever be one of those bloggers who posts every day or even a few days a week?  Probably not.  That is the reality of my life and I’ve definitely accepted that. But there are days when I feel like I really need to write to process some of the things going on right now as it relates to running.

First, yes, I did run in a little 15k on Saturday.  Maybe I will get to that race report before my next race.  It was not a PR but it was a pretty solid effort and consistent with where I am in my training right now.  The 15k is an interesting distance.  I only race one a year (this one) but I always enjoy the distance.

Where to begin?  There is a lot of stuff going on right now! I guess I will start with some big training news.  I now have a coach!  Ever since last June I have been on my own.  I took some much needed time off for my foot to heal.  Then, in the fall I started the recovery/ comeback process.   It’s taken a little longer than I thought it would.  I didn’t want to start working with a coach until I felt like I could give training 100%.  After NOLA I decided it was time.  I have actually wanted to join the Elite Marathoning- USMT Project for a while now.  I am definitely in the back of this pack but I am excited start this journey.  I know it will take time to get to where I want to be but I am ready to do the work.

Have I mentioned I’m running a marathon in 19 days?! Yes, I just started working with Coach Hadley last week and my marathon is almost around the corner.  I know it’s an odd time in a training cycle to start working with a coach.  Obviously this is not my “A” marathon.  I have been on the fence about doing the LRM full or half and for better or worse I decided to go for the full.  This is definitely one of my lowest marathon training cycles ever.  Basically I’ve been averaging 50-60 miles per week.  I’ve been very cautious about increasing mileage.  My foot is doing great and I really don’t want to go backwards.  Apparently my motto this training cycle has been is it’s better to be under-trained than injured!  I just hope I’m ready!

Some more big news: The Another Mother Runner Retreat in Little Rock- April 16-19!  Yes, several months ago I received an email about this retreat and I knew I had to go! Thanks to a very sweet friend with a few good connections I was invited to speak on the Goals Upping panel.  I am extremely honored and excited to be a part of this event!  I will be posting about this more to come but it’s sure to be an amazing weekend!  Did I mention it’s being hosted at one of my favorite hotels of all time?  I’ve stayed at the Capital Hotel twice now and it really is second to none!

The Capital Hotel in Little Rock

The last time we stayed at the Capital was in June for the Go! Mile Championship.  My kids thought it was the “best vacation ever!”

Well I better wrap this up! The River Trail 15K Race Report is coming soon!!

  1. So awesome you’ll be a part of that event. Exciting, fun stuff!! I am signed up for the LR half, but I am not certain I’ll be participating now. Though, part of me has this crazy notion that I could at least walk/run it. Hmmm ….

    1. Lol!! Heather- we are so the same! I have that same mindset in an injury. If you end up not run/ walking and you are outside your house cheering on participants let me know and I will look for you. Didn’t you say you live on the course? I would love to see a familiar face!

    2. Glad I’m not the only runner with a crazy brain LOL. Yes, I do live on the course. It used to be right at 9.5 miles but they changed the course up so I’m not exactly sure the distance in. It’s heading up towards the governor’s mansion.

  2. SOOO exciting! I must say I am a tad jealous :)….I have been following Mark Hadley and his daughter for awhile now. I heard him and her speak at the Indy Marathon last year. If I could do a coach I would totally want him or someone coached by him! I have been using his pace chart and his workouts that I have found online at his MPR site for my training. I am SOOOO excited for you :)! That is super awesome about the retreat too!

  3. I’m pretty excited about your new coach, upcoming marathon, and that’s so awesome you get to speak at Another Mother Runner. My friend did Little Rock last year and got the crazy huge medal, it’s so cool. But she’s not doing it this year (she actually just BQed so yeah). I bet you’ll do great in the marathon because you’ve done it before and you’re still pretty well trained even if your mileage is lower this time.

I follow your coach on twitter and he posts some really good quotes and motivation. It seems like a great program and it’s always good to have a coach who believes in you. Glad to see you blogging again but don’t worry about writing every day or multiple times a week- your posts are great and I look forward to seeing them whenever they’re up ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Tia, you did great at the River Trail 15K; so nice to see you there! A friend of mine in Nashville, TN receives coaching by Coach Hadley; she’s not in the Elite Marathoning project, but she is a client of his and she’s been really happy with the guidance she’s received. That is definitely exciting news! I started working with a coach in October of last year (just in time to make some changes before 3 Bridges) and it’s been a wonderful experience and a huge help. I’m so glad you’ll be part of the AMR lineup; that’s amazing!! Congrats and keep us posted!

    1. Yes, coaching is a huge helps. Even though I also coach runners I felt like I needed this for myself too. It adds a much better sense of direction in training and I know I can learn a lot from him.

  5. So exciting!! I know quite a few folks (a few bloggers and a couple people in real life) that are coached by Mark and love it! Can’t wait to hear about that experience and how you progress. I’m especially interested in hearing your thoughts on how you think his plans/training compare to Pfitzinger’s Advanced Marathoning (since that’s the plan I’m using now and I think you’ve used in the past!). So thrilled for you. Wish I lived closer so I could come hear you speak at the conference – sounds like a really fun time! I’m sitting here in the middle of a 90 mile week (my first week to ever hit that mileage) and wondering if I should try to go sub-3 or try 3:02-3:03. Nervous about going for sub-3 and crashing and burning around mile 18! Help! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Personally, I prefer blogs that post only once or twice a week. I can’t keep up otherwise. I love that you only write when you have something to share.

How exciting you’ve got a coach. I look forward to following along on this training journey. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Oh Tia, so many good things in your life!! So happy for all of these! Much more to say but for now just leaving a short note to say I’m smiling for you!! Your coach, marathon, injury free, the retreat!! So impressed with you! Inspired.

  8. So many cool things going on! I hear great things about working with the trials project and coach Hadley- I’m sure the results will show. You work hard and any coach would be lucky to work with you. Very awesome you will also be a part of that event, enjoy it!

    1. Thanks Laura! I’m ready to get back after it now that the PF is finally gone! From the looks of things I see on DM you are in beast mode these days!

  9. Huge congrats on your new coach! Coach Hadley is one of the best and I have no doubt you are going to make big progress. Super exciting!!!! The retreat sounds great too. I am happy for you Tia! ๐Ÿ™‚
