Marathon Week: Oh the Drama!

Marathon Week: Oh the Drama!

My morning started off a little rocky. Pun intended. Around 4:30 this morning I heard a loud noise in the hallway.  I immediately knew something was wrong and sure enough Rocky looked like he was about to throw up.  I grabbed him and brought him to the bathroom.  He did.  A few times. Then I brought him in to lay with John in the “sick room” of the house.  So he stayed home from school. So far no one (else) has gotten sick but I know we are not out of the woods.  Not by a long shot.

I took Abi to school and since John was home I met 3 of my running buddies for an easy 4 mile run.  My friend Tish had a surprise for me.

The best pumpkins are the ones that say 26.2 on them!
A Halloween run with the girls!

Tish even did 2 miles with me at my marathon race pace after our easy 4.  I have some sweet running friends!

I spent the day cleaning the house, folding and putting away laundry and trying to stay caught up on all the NYC Marathon drama!! If you have “liked” the ING NYC Marathon on Facebook then you know what I’m talking about.  There are many people with some strong opinions on why we should or should not have the NYC Marathon this year.

I think people should not do it if they feel strongly about not doing it.  If they want to run it I say go for it.  When a race director says a race will happen, I trust the judgement of the race director.  Whether it is the right time, circumstance- whatever.  In this case, the race director and the mayor have said the marathon is a go so I am going forward as well.  I have paid for the race, the travel arrangements and if the race is on then I’m going!  I am not sure what everything will be like when I get there but I’m just going to have a good attitude about it all.

For anyone interested in tracking me- My bib number is: 11037.
I will warn you- I think it costs $2.99.  I am going to look into it more tomorrow when I have time. I think there is an option that I can pay $2.99 and it might go to my Facebook or twitter so if you follow me on either of those it could be free.

I am in the Orange wave #1 of Corral #11. (9:40 am start).  I have no idea how we are getting to the start but I am trusting all those in NYRR are taking care of those details!

Thanks for your encouragement! I’ll keep you posted…

  1. You are so ready…safe travels and good luck! I cannot believe the most expensive marathon then charges people to track them. I may just do it anyway.

  2. My thoughts exactly. The whole situation is a complete mess, and the drama around the marathon definitely dampers the excitement of marathon week. I also feel a little guilty about running this race when people have lost so much. But like you said, I have to trust that if the RD and mayor say it’s good for the city to hold the race (and safe to put it on), than that’s that. I’m heading to NYC today. We’ll see how it goes…

Also! I’m in your corral!!! I won’t have a phone or anything with me at the start so I’m not sure how to coordinate, but it would be fun to meet up with you somehow. When do you get to NYC?
