2012 review and going out with a bang!

2012 review and going out with a bang!

I wasn’t sure if I was going to get around to reviewing my 2012 goals but I decided it was time.  I need to do it for me more than anything else.  Some of them I met, some I didn’t.  And that’s ok because 2013 is a fresh new start! Goal # 1- Read the Bible. I really wish I could say YES to this one (like I did in 2011) but I can’t. Sadly, I made it until mid…

Life, Training and everything in between!

Life, Training and everything in between!

Has it really been almost 2 weeks since my last post?!!  I don’t even know where to begin.  So much going on right now (as it is for everyone) and honestly I just wanted to take a little break from blogs in general.  The big kids have been home from school since Wednesday and having four home keeps me much busier than just my usual two.  Still, I love it when everyone is home together and we don’t have somewhere…

The BEST and WORST of 2012: A Year of Racing!

The BEST and WORST of 2012: A Year of Racing!

It’s been a little while (almost a year to be exact) since I wrote my New Year’s Resolution Post but I decided to go back and check out some of my running related goals when 2012 started. One of my goals was to run a race every month!  This included 5K’s all the way to marathons. I knew this would not be possible if I got injured but as long as I could physically do it, I wanted to run…

Fit4Christ Christmas 5K- Race Recap!

Fit4Christ Christmas 5K- Race Recap!

Well, I wasn’t going to do any more racing in 2012 but I decided to make a little exception for someone very special… Me and my big girl When we heard about a very low-key 5K happening on campus this past weekend, my husband and I asked Abi if she wanted to run in it.  She liked the fact that is was on a different course around the intramural fields and she would knock out 3 miles towards the 100…

Quanity vs. Quality: Trying to PR with Multiple Marathons

Quanity vs. Quality: Trying to PR with Multiple Marathons

2012. What a year. I do not plan on racing anymore this month so in the next few weeks many of my posts will be reflecting on random running/ race stuff that happened this year as well as some of my goals for next year.  When the year began my marathon PR was a 3:35. My main marathon goal for 2012 was to break 3:20.  I wasn’t sure if I would do it the first time around but I planned…

St. Jude Marathon Race Report- Respect the distance.

St. Jude Marathon Race Report- Respect the distance.

Today’s marathon taught me many things but I’d say the biggest lesson I learned was to respect the distance.  I’ve heard other runners say this but it’s never quite hit me the way it did today.  And it hit hard. Forcing my legs to continue to move during the last 2 miles was a bigger accomplishment than running the entire first 24. Going into this race I was pretty optimistic about it all.  Even though I had run another marathon…

And we’re off!

And we’re off!

This will have to be a VERY brief post as I have about a million things to do before we head to Memphis.  Fortunately, it is only a 2 hour drive through farmland so it won’t be too bad.  I just wanted to post my bib number in case you wanted to track me.  Bib number # 24.  If you are on twitter I set it up so that my time will automatically tweet at certain mile checkpoints.  (Hopefully I…

It’s gonna hurt…

It’s gonna hurt…

The marathon is such a physically demanding race but I find the mental side of it even more challenging.  In preparation for the last 10-15K I am trying to prepare myself now with as many pep talks as I can.  Having raced 26.2 miles less than 4 weeks ago this distance is fresh on my mind.  I have replayed the miles over and over in my head trying to figure out what I will do the same and what I…

4th Times the Charm…

4th Times the Charm…

Is it already the end of November?  I’m not sure where this month went but we are down to the last few days.  I haven’t written in over a week.  Life has been busy.  The big kids were home all last week for Thanksgiving break and I just didn’t get around to any posts.  We had a very relaxing week home complete with no travel plans.  It was wonderful.  We had a great meal at my in-laws (who live one…

The anniversary of my worst race ever…

The anniversary of my worst race ever…

Every November 18th I remember something special that happened….  I was a senior in college and only one thing stood between me and Thanksgiving break- the National Cross Country Championship in Pomona, California.  I had high hopes for my last cross country race.  I wanted to go out on a high note before track season in the spring.  However, I was not as focused and felt a little burned out at this point in the season.  I was ready for…
