Recently I learned a very important lesson the hard way. DO NOT start too fast. Maybe some runners can pull it together if they start on the fast side but not me. I have a much better racing experience when I negative split. I need to start slower and stay steady. I have spent the past two Saturday’s running in two very different half marathons and had two completely different experiences. At Soaring Wings I took off too fast and struggled at the end. I lost all confidence, motivation and focus. I did not enjoy being a runner that day. One week later I ran in the Midsouth Championship Half Marathon. I started conservatively and stayed consistent. I stayed positive and kept my focused and finished strong. I loved being a runner.

This is great!! I’m taking your advice for my half this Sunday!! 🙂 I always start too fast and I need to “keep the horses in the barn” and let ’em out at the end!
You’re a speedy runner! Love that you could pull out a 6:38 mile at the end!! AWESOME!! You’re going to do great in your next full!
Keep it up!! 🙂
Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks Pam! I would love to hear about your half!! Do you have a blog site? When I click on your name it just brings up the AOL page. Do you have a blog site? Good luck! 🙂
Boy that really is convincing stuff! Way to improve just with strategy. I need to go read your RR now!
Pack your bags! I need a training partner. 🙂
What a great comparison chart! That’s a great lesson to learn. Congrats on those super speedy times!
Thanks! I thought the chart would help me. I’m doing another half in 2 weeks and I will try to remember this myself!
