2 Updates: The CORE Challenge and The Bible
As you recall, I challenged myself at the beginning of the month to work on my core a little each day. I call it the October Core Challenge. Basically, I challenged myself to spend 10-15 minutes at least each day doing at least 100 ab exercises (crunches, leg lifts, bicycles, sit-ups, etc.) and 75 or more push-ups. I started with only girl push-ups but after two weeks I am adding some boy push-ups in the mix.
I tend to get so focused and into running that I neglect all other aspects of my fitness. I know my running will benefit from a stronger core, not to mention it will help prevent injuries so I have to make myself do it. Plus, my body tends to store fat in my belly region. So this is an area that I need to work on. I know I could be doing a lot more but this is a start. It doesn’t take that much time and it is better than not doing anything!
Today is October 15th and I am proud to say that I have been consistent. 15 days in a row. It is not always convenient and there have been nights when I was about to go to bed and I remembered I hadn’t done my core workout yet so I got on the floor and did my sets.
As you know, an even bigger goal I’ve had this year has been to read the Bible through cover to cover. I know many people do this every year but as much as I love God I have never read His Word in its entirety. I have made several attempts but never made it more than halfway. At this point, I am over 3/4 of my way through and still reading. I’m a few days behind (on October 11th) but I will finish. I really am learning so much and I can’t believe it’s taken me these many years to read it all.
Tonight, once we got the kids in bed I was really tempted to lay on the couch and watch some shows we had DVR’d. We had a fun night (watched The Princess Bride and had pizza) but I knew I needed to do a little something. So I made myself head over to the gym. After yesterday’s tough tempo I just did an easy 3 miles on the elliptical, followed by my core workout. It wasn’t much but it was enough to make me feel like I had done something productive fitness-wise. Some days that is enough!

I admire your dedication! Both in the core work and the Bible reading. Are you using a reading plan, or just your own thing? I have read the new testament cover to cover, but whenever I try to do the whole Bible I get off track around Deuteronomy. Need to give it another shot.
I am not training for any specific race right now. Looking at a couple of possible HMs in late Nov, early Dec. And then probably Eugene Marathon in May. 🙂
Thanks Raina!
