Running with 4…Literally.

Running with 4…Literally.

It was day 4 of my husband being in the hospital and had been 5 days since my last run. I NEEDED to run. I just can’t justify having anyone come over to keep the kids so I can run. If I have childcare right now it needs to be so I can be with John at the hospital. So… I decided when I woke up I was going to run- knowing that meant taking 4 little “sidekicks” with me….

Pneumonia. What else can I say?

Pneumonia. What else can I say?

No, I do not have pneumonia but John does so my life has been temporarily turned upside down.  He is actually currently being hospitalized.  He is my number one priority and everything else in my life has taken a back seat.  I’m not worried about running or anything like that right now.  We just need to get him better so he can come home. It’s been a rough week and it’s only Tuesday.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a good day…

Thwarted Plans

Thwarted Plans

This morning did not go as I had planned.  A sick husband and baby who woke up at 6am and wouldn’t go back to sleep equaled no early morning run for this runner mom. I do my best to stick to my schedule but LIFE happens and sometimes we just can’t control circumstances. This was one of the those mornings so I had to text my running buddies early.  Fortunately, there were still two of them meeting so they had each…

My first tempo run…and guess who slept through it all!

My first tempo run…and guess who slept through it all!

Let me begin this post with some awesome news… I am officially a stress fracture rehab runner GRADUATE! On Saturday I ran for over 60 consecutive minutes and completed my 7 week rehab plan.  I am still monitoring my training closely and not getting ahead of myself.  Do I still ever feel pain? Rarely.  I feel a little twinge in the stress fracture area when I turn a certain way and put pressure on it but I know it’s healing…

Surviving the HEAT without skipping a beat…

Surviving the HEAT without skipping a beat…

Yes, it’s July and the best place to be is inside in the air conditioning. You have two options: run inside on a treadmill OR outside where it is blazing. What are you going to do? Personally, I usually prefer to run outside. In the summer months I run early and try to stay up on my fluids to avoid dehydration. On Saturday I went 7 miles with a friend and we planned a water break a little over halfway…

Our very own race…

Our very own race…

This past weekend we hosted a family reunion at my house. My family has several runners so I thought it would be fitting to have a 5K. The more I thought about it I really wanted everyone to participate (including my parents and the grandchildren) so that meant shortening the event to a One Mile Fun Run. The good stuff: We had 17 participants and Abi made race bibs for everyone. They were numbered in birth order. (My dad’s bib…

Sleeping in or running early…

Sleeping in or running early…

This morning I got a text from a friend who was supposed to meet me to run early. She couldn’t make it because her son was sick. Suddenly I thought about how nice it would be to just go back to bed. It’s VERY easy to justify sleeping in to a mom who:1.) didn’t get to bed early enough to begin with and2.) woke up 2 times during the night to nurse a baby. Then I remembered all the reasons…

The Halfway Point

The Halfway Point

Today is a very special day. It’s July 1st and on this day I became a mother… My baby is 7?!! While I am on the subject of reflecting, I might as well consider that we are exactly halfway through the year. It has been quite an eventful 6 months. I have experienced great joy, as well as some pain. It’s hard to believe that 6 months ago, I looked like this… I can definitely say that the highlight of…
